TW: Slight medical/body gore

The crew dashes off to GIngan, the capital of Gosnesh, to take bit of rest after their intense chase scene. They find a lonely elf boy squatting in "their" abandoned building, Ari makes contact with Id, and Myla keeps researching (classic, we love her for it).

[00:00:00] Speaker A: I'm hitting recording. I'm recording. I have hit recording time. [00:00:07] Speaker B: I'm freaking out. [00:00:08] Speaker A: Okay. [00:00:10] Speaker C: Oh, my God, Meg. [00:00:11] Speaker D: Every single day. [00:00:13] Speaker B: It's the big red one. I should have gone pee before I did this. [00:00:16] Speaker A: Okay. It's okay. [00:00:33] Speaker D: We're back, baby. [00:00:35] Speaker A: I haven't collapsed since last May for, like, any listeners. [00:00:43] Speaker B: We recorded episodes one and two before summer, back in May, and then we had our whole summer, and it's now August 24. So if we're, like, nuts, that's why. [00:00:54] Speaker E: Don'T docks our calendars. [00:00:56] Speaker A: Back in my day, it was only D and D five e, not any of this one. [00:01:00] Speaker B: D and D bowls five point. We've been calling it 5.5. Is that, like, the thing that it's called, or is it something that someone came up, made up? [00:01:10] Speaker C: It's just 2024 D and D right now. [00:01:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:01:12] Speaker E: They've been calling it 2025. [00:01:14] Speaker C: It's not because they were like, no. [00:01:16] Speaker B: Five e is so popular. [00:01:18] Speaker C: There should have been a separate system. It should have been 5.5. [00:01:21] Speaker E: They should have just done it. [00:01:23] Speaker A: Proverbial plug. [00:01:25] Speaker B: There are some. There are some fun changes. There are some weird ones, too. But, you know, when you're trying to squish a whole system into a new update, it's always going to be a little weird. [00:01:35] Speaker E: So we're not using that in this podcast. We're not even talked about that. [00:01:40] Speaker B: But we are not. Or using regular. Regular. Degular five. Ethereum. [00:01:48] Speaker A: Ashen. I thought we were transitioning to Pathfinder. Is that not what we're doing? Do I need to redo my character? [00:01:53] Speaker B: Yeah, it's just you. Just me. [00:01:56] Speaker A: And we are all a different ttrp. [00:01:59] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:01:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Auden calls Ben playing blades in the dark. Yep. Meg's playing monster hearts and Chris playing monster of the week. Oh, wow. [00:02:08] Speaker C: I love that it's all powered by the apocalypse. [00:02:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. So it's at least, like, a little bit. Jay stole the I'm playing lasers and feelings. [00:02:19] Speaker A: I'm used to being out. [00:02:23] Speaker B: So if I tell you to roll two d six, at least you could do that. But it means a lot of different stuff. [00:02:28] Speaker A: So if I roll two d six right now and I get a ten or higher, do I get a free 200 gold pieces? [00:02:39] Speaker C: What a bargain. [00:02:41] Speaker B: Is that the rules of Pathfinder? [00:02:43] Speaker A: Yes. I will reply 1000%. [00:02:49] Speaker B: Welcome to spells and whistles, a Dungeons and Dragons fifth edition, regular fifth edition podcast. Just gonna. You should take a drink every time we say fifth edition. Don't do that. You'd be drunk already. [00:03:05] Speaker C: Vodka in the kitchen. [00:03:05] Speaker B: I miss in so long. God, I miss it. Anyway, last time, after catching Nadia and a use of rope trick from Myla, the group learns that Nadia was on the run from Gosnesh officials for stealing a magical quill. I did that to myself, so it's fine. Under the influence of id's zone of truth, she also exposes that Professor Obel is her mother and that she's been hearing of arendrill, but doesn't really know much about him. She's also having odd drawings show up in her journal. Melwyn helps determine what the quill does and who it belongs to. And we begin in this rope trick pocket dimension. I think you guys had just climbed down the rope and are now on the regular streets of Gaznash. [00:03:52] Speaker E: The regular edition dungeons and dragons Streets of Gosne. [00:03:56] Speaker B: Streets of Gaznethe. [00:04:02] Speaker A: This is my favorite bit of the arc already. [00:04:08] Speaker B: Congrats. If you started at Ark four, you've only had to listen to two episodes before we got to our favorite bit of game. [00:04:17] Speaker A: Just wait till you hear about the pits. [00:04:19] Speaker B: So what do you guys want to do? Your feet hit the cobblestone streets. It is still nighttime. I think Melwyn has the Quillenne currently, and Nadia has her other stuff. Did you guys give Nadia's, like, journal bag to her, or did you take it? [00:04:36] Speaker D: I think we give it back. [00:04:37] Speaker B: Okay. [00:04:38] Speaker A: Give her her money. [00:04:41] Speaker B: Alrighty. Did you give her her money, or you just. [00:04:44] Speaker A: I feel like we should. I don't want to steal from her. 300 gold pieces. That's kind of shitty. [00:04:50] Speaker C: Nah, it's ours now. [00:04:52] Speaker A: No. [00:04:53] Speaker D: Well, she's gonna be traveling with us, right? As our new bestie? [00:04:58] Speaker A: Mm hmm. [00:04:59] Speaker C: I wouldn't say bestie. [00:05:00] Speaker B: I hear it. [00:05:01] Speaker D: I think we'll get there. [00:05:02] Speaker B: Did you retie her hands at the base, or are you just letting her. [00:05:05] Speaker C: I don't have a fucking clue. I'll be super free. [00:05:07] Speaker B: Be free. I don't think it was specified. That's why I'm asking if it was. This is canonical. Starting from now. [00:05:16] Speaker A: I don't think Milo would have cared. [00:05:18] Speaker D: We had some storming out action happening, if I. I correctly recall. Or am I? [00:05:24] Speaker E: People weren't super happy with just the situation. Well, Nadia wasn't for sure. [00:05:29] Speaker B: Yeah, well, she got kidnapped by people that she helped in the past, so I can't imagine why she'd be upset about that. [00:05:36] Speaker C: I know we played truth or truth for a bit, and not everyone was, like, super thrilled about that. [00:05:43] Speaker D: Well, I think that it is nighttime. It does make a lot of sense to get somewhere for the night and to maybe rest up and then we can sort of figure out what it is that we want to be doing going forward. If we want to pursue this quill thing, if we want to continue our. She kind of looks over to Nadia and then back to her companions and, like, gives a really big wink. Personal research. [00:06:14] Speaker B: Um, wait, what was that for? [00:06:18] Speaker D: There was dust in my eye. [00:06:19] Speaker B: Right? Yeah, for sure. [00:06:21] Speaker E: Nadia, do you feel okay being in the same building with us as we sleep? Or do you want to risk being by yourself and meeting up? [00:06:31] Speaker B: Honestly, I don't fucking care. I just think that you guys shouldn't steal from me, number one. And number two, maybe don't kidnap people. That's. That would be cool too, getting, like, major. [00:06:43] Speaker F: But you stole from them. [00:06:45] Speaker C: And Melan, like, points back toward where the guards were. [00:06:48] Speaker B: Yeah, well, they deserved it. [00:06:50] Speaker A: That's true. Maybe when you're mean to other people, you deserve to be stolen from too. Under that law, it doesn't mean. [00:06:57] Speaker B: Oh, my God. [00:06:58] Speaker E: Okay, well, the choice of we're going to go together and rest. If you would like to join us and be a tiny bit safer, that's fine with me. If you would like to be by yourself because we kidnapped you for a little bit, that's also fine with me. [00:07:17] Speaker B: Well, you took my stuff, so I. At the very least, I guess I'm gonna follow Melwyn around like a little dog. So where are we going? [00:07:28] Speaker D: I think we have established that we've set up like a little sort of home base here in ghaznash since we've been here and using it as like, kind of a central point for our little excursions and stuff during the little time. [00:07:39] Speaker B: Sure. You paying rent or what? That's a good question. Okay, you show up and there are like four different eviction notices on the door. [00:07:49] Speaker A: Oh, I like the idea that, like, there's like an abandoned shop or something that we've just been kind of squatting in, like, some more. [00:07:57] Speaker D: What I had in order to open. [00:07:58] Speaker A: Windows and, like, shut. [00:08:00] Speaker E: Working with the government. [00:08:05] Speaker B: Sure. Great. You show up and there's like a light on still in this abandoned shop. [00:08:10] Speaker E: Did you leave that on? [00:08:13] Speaker B: You don't know where we are? Are you asking me? [00:08:18] Speaker E: I'm asking the group in the general. [00:08:23] Speaker B: Hey, Nadia, did you leave the light on? [00:08:25] Speaker C: I know you just got here. [00:08:26] Speaker E: Yeah. [00:08:27] Speaker B: Hey. [00:08:30] Speaker D: Can I peek in through one of the slats of a boarded up window, please? [00:08:35] Speaker B: Yes. Sorry, spacey. [00:08:38] Speaker D: You're good. [00:08:39] Speaker B: Yeah. Make a perception check. [00:08:40] Speaker C: Cool. [00:08:42] Speaker D: Uh oh. See my pre session roll was a natural 20, but my perception check is, unfortunately, a three. [00:08:50] Speaker B: Oh, no. You, like, start to look in, and a little spider just, like, drops, like, right in front of your face. Cause you're, like, trying to peek in this window even now. [00:09:00] Speaker D: For real. There's, like, a spider in my eye. [00:09:04] Speaker B: You're not sure? [00:09:05] Speaker D: I think we probably should just kind of go inside and check it out. [00:09:10] Speaker E: You got it. Opens the door and goes in. [00:09:16] Speaker B: The second you open the door, or there are footsteps coming towards the door, you hear someone aside. Go. And then this light from everyone outside can see that this light goes out and. [00:09:28] Speaker C: Wait a minute. [00:09:30] Speaker B: You don't hear anything else? Wait a second. [00:09:31] Speaker C: Where is yarn with you? [00:09:33] Speaker B: Is he Dylan? It just sounds like he's turned into a very small cat and is currently asleep inside of a pocket. God, he's so weird. [00:09:42] Speaker C: Right. [00:09:44] Speaker E: I'm gonna go towards where that voice came from. [00:09:47] Speaker B: Okay. Do you wanna make a perception check? It is dark, so do you have dark vision? I can't remember. [00:09:51] Speaker E: I don't. [00:09:54] Speaker C: He has blind sense. [00:09:55] Speaker E: I have. I do have blind sense. I have it, actually, because technically, it is a shifter. He does have dark vision. Just got slightly modified eyes. [00:10:06] Speaker B: There you go. [00:10:08] Speaker E: Ooh, that's good. Perception 19. [00:10:11] Speaker B: Great. You see someone in a dark hood, black clothes, is, like, just squatted behind, like, an overturned table that has been overturned. Like, it was that way when you guys left, but you can just see, like, the top of their hood sticking up right above the table. [00:10:29] Speaker E: All right, well, I can very clearly see the top of your head. You did not do a very good job hiding. Are you going to be honest and come out and tell us why you are inside the place that we have been squatting in the. Or are you going to run away? Those are your choices. [00:10:48] Speaker B: Um, I. I mean, you guys don't own it either, so. [00:10:55] Speaker E: Very true. [00:10:56] Speaker B: Would you be here, too? [00:10:57] Speaker E: Would you like a corner? We can, like, set up some furniture. [00:10:59] Speaker B: And a little bit of a wall or something. [00:11:02] Speaker E: Probably not. [00:11:03] Speaker B: Okay. I don't like that. It's probably. [00:11:05] Speaker E: I mean, if you try to kill us, I'll probably kill you back. [00:11:08] Speaker B: Okay, well, I'm not gonna kill you. [00:11:10] Speaker E: Okay, great. Let's. [00:11:12] Speaker B: No, probably just. [00:11:13] Speaker E: It is like walking over towards the table. [00:11:18] Speaker B: They're not moving. They're still in their crouched position. And you, like, round the corner of the table, and they're just, like, fully squatting down, holding onto a candle in a little candlestick holder in one hand. And the other hand has recently let go of a little throwing star that they have that they were like. You could see that they were prepped, but then they let it go, and they just look up at you and like, huh? Hey, hey. [00:11:50] Speaker E: Pick it up and hit inside that broken picture frame. Where's it go? [00:11:55] Speaker B: Okay, they grab the throwing star, and it misses on the left side. Pretty wide. It almost goes through a window. [00:12:06] Speaker E: Okay, you now get a smaller corner. [00:12:11] Speaker B: Why? [00:12:12] Speaker E: Cause you missed. [00:12:13] Speaker B: Such an asshole. That's not fair. [00:12:16] Speaker E: It takes out a javelin and threw it in the picture frame to prove his point. [00:12:20] Speaker B: All right, roll it. [00:12:23] Speaker D: I want him to whiff this so bad. [00:12:27] Speaker C: Twelve plus eight is a 32 main or something. [00:12:30] Speaker B: Wait, wait, what'd you get? Sorry. [00:12:35] Speaker E: Twelve plus eight for a dirty 20. [00:12:37] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah. You, like, pin this thing to the wall. [00:12:42] Speaker E: So inside the picture frame, I get to choose your corner. I'll be a little bit more generous than I thought it might be. How old are you? [00:12:52] Speaker B: You look at them and see that, like, while most of them is covered by clothing, they seem to be, like, just a very disheveled little elf kid who's, like, maybe 1418. [00:13:10] Speaker E: Cool. All right, let's set up your corner. It's late and we have to sleep, so I'm gonna help you set up a little corner where you can be. Okay? We really don't want to mess with you, and I don't think you want to mess with us. That person has a gun. [00:13:26] Speaker B: I don't know what that is. [00:13:28] Speaker E: It's a. It's, uh. [00:13:30] Speaker A: It hurts a lot. [00:13:31] Speaker E: Yeah. Gun. [00:13:33] Speaker B: Anyway. It doesn't have a blade on it. [00:13:36] Speaker E: Exactly. Isn't that scary? [00:13:38] Speaker A: Can I try to shoot the picture frame? [00:13:40] Speaker B: Oh, my God. [00:13:43] Speaker E: Picture frames getting fucked up. [00:13:44] Speaker B: Sure. [00:13:46] Speaker D: Is there anyone in the picture frame? Just so I can get the clear in there? [00:13:50] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:13:50] Speaker D: You know. [00:13:51] Speaker B: Yeah. There's like. Like a. Like one of the corners has been, like, crumpled and kind of rolled down and torn. Like, torn. You can't tell, but it is just kind of like an old guy, you know, like a classic, like, semi side profile, but, like, the head is facing towards. Towards the picture. Just, like, white hair, white mustache. Nice, like, suit, javelin in the forehead? Yeah, yeah, exactly. [00:14:20] Speaker A: I rolled a total of the wrist 16, but I'm gonna flash of genius myself to make it a 21. [00:14:26] Speaker B: Jesus, J, where do you wanna shoot this guy? I can't. [00:14:34] Speaker A: Write. [00:14:36] Speaker C: You're riding a stupid schnoz. [00:14:40] Speaker A: Stupid schnoz. [00:14:45] Speaker B: All right. You shoot him right in a stupid schnozenhe. There's a huge bullet hole that goes through the wood siding that's loud inside. [00:14:56] Speaker A: Yeah. Milo pulls out the gun with the filigree on the side, shoots it, watches everyone react, and then just sort of says, so it's really important to make sure that we're safe with weapons like this, because they can be very, very dangerous. So please do not touch it unless I show you how to use it, which we can figure that out if we decide that we like you. [00:15:17] Speaker F: Also, if you were trying to steal from us, maybe don't leave the light on. [00:15:22] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, that was a dead giveaway. [00:15:24] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm trying to steal. Hey, this was abandoned. No one was in here. [00:15:29] Speaker E: We didn't really leave anything here. [00:15:31] Speaker F: Yeah, it starts moving tables and boxes. [00:15:37] Speaker D: What's your name? [00:15:38] Speaker B: Jack. [00:15:39] Speaker D: It's nice to meet you, Jack. My name's odinhood. [00:15:42] Speaker B: Okay. [00:15:43] Speaker E: You want any blankets, kid? [00:15:45] Speaker B: No. [00:15:46] Speaker E: Okay. You can have one of mine. [00:15:48] Speaker D: Wish. [00:15:48] Speaker B: Okay. [00:15:49] Speaker E: It has now set up like, it's like two boxes high, and part of the. The table is like the door. And throws his. He unceremoniously throws his blanket out of his backpack into the corner and says, okay, that's your corner. [00:16:02] Speaker B: Okay. [00:16:02] Speaker E: You're free to enter it and leave it whenever you want. But, like, sleeping sound, right? [00:16:08] Speaker B: Do any of you snore? I hope not. [00:16:10] Speaker A: It does. [00:16:11] Speaker E: Yarn does. [00:16:12] Speaker B: What do you. [00:16:13] Speaker E: Don't throw me under the bus. [00:16:15] Speaker A: It's true. [00:16:16] Speaker G: Truth or truth? [00:16:17] Speaker B: Who's yarn? [00:16:18] Speaker E: The cat. [00:16:19] Speaker B: You open the pocket, and the cat goes, I don't know how cats snore, so that's fine. [00:16:29] Speaker D: It's like white noise. [00:16:33] Speaker A: Hmm. [00:16:34] Speaker F: Why are you. Wait. Why are you digging around in an empty shop? [00:16:38] Speaker A: Good question. [00:16:39] Speaker B: Why are you digging around in an empty shop? [00:16:42] Speaker F: Oh, we're living here. [00:16:43] Speaker E: Yeah. It's cheap living. [00:16:45] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't have money. [00:16:47] Speaker E: There you go. We're on the same page. All right, I'm sleeping now. [00:16:52] Speaker D: You're not. [00:16:53] Speaker B: I think you lay. They also, Jack also goes into their section, and I like id. You lay down and hold on, like 5 seconds after you close your eyes. You just get beamed in the shoulder with a light, something that bounces off. [00:17:15] Speaker E: It opens one eye and looks over, and it's just like you. [00:17:20] Speaker B: It's like a half. It's like half of a piece of bread. Like half a loaf of bread. [00:17:25] Speaker C: A bread. Nice. [00:17:28] Speaker E: He takes it. He's just. He's laying, like, completely on his back. It's just like bed mat and nothing else. Just like stiff cardboard sleeping. And he just, like, lays there. One of his arms is still stiff, and he's just, like, eating the bread staring at his. [00:17:46] Speaker B: It's like our good friend who sleeps like a dead person. Arms across over chest. It is the funniest thing I've ever seen. Sorry, friend. I am from you. Under the bus, no name. [00:17:58] Speaker A: Mila's gonna go over. I know Jack's laying down, but Milo doesn't understand social cues, and she's going to sort of rest her chin on top of her hands on top of, like, the boxes that it had set up, and it's gonna say, so what are you running from? [00:18:12] Speaker B: I'm not really running from any. I. Well, I don't know. I guess a boarding house. You know that a boarding house is, like, where, like, it's essentially an orphanage or, like, a shelter for people who don't have family around or, you know. [00:18:31] Speaker A: Yes, I am familiar with the concept of such. So why'd you leave, though? Like, what brings you here? You know, it was shitty. [00:18:42] Speaker B: I don't. Because they were mean. And that sucks. [00:18:47] Speaker C: It's like, normal ass kid, and we're. [00:18:49] Speaker B: Just grilling him, abusive and, you know, all that stuff. [00:18:54] Speaker A: Can you do anything cool? [00:18:56] Speaker B: Like special glances, like, over towards the broken picture thing on the wall? And it's like, apparently not. [00:19:04] Speaker A: Well, like, are you magic? Can you, like, do this? And Milo will produce flame in her hand. Oh. [00:19:09] Speaker F: I mean, you hit. [00:19:10] Speaker A: Shut it off. [00:19:10] Speaker B: I thought you were gonna kill me. Don't kill me. [00:19:12] Speaker A: No, I'm not going to kill you. [00:19:13] Speaker F: And he didn't kill you, so that's pretty special. [00:19:15] Speaker G: Oh, yeah. [00:19:16] Speaker A: That is pretty special, huh? [00:19:18] Speaker B: Great. [00:19:19] Speaker A: Can, while I'm sort of up in Jack's space, could I make an investigation check to see if I see any sort of, like, symbology special items or, like, anything on them that might give a little bit more indication as to, like, what their deal is, if anything. [00:19:44] Speaker B: I think this is investigation. [00:19:46] Speaker A: Yeah. All up in their space. Well, I only rolled a three, so it's gonna be a 16. [00:19:54] Speaker B: You suck. [00:19:56] Speaker C: Amazing. [00:19:57] Speaker B: I roll three, so this is 16. [00:19:59] Speaker A: If you gotta flaunt it. [00:20:03] Speaker B: Gotcha. I don't think that applies to D and D roles in magazine. [00:20:08] Speaker E: It does. [00:20:10] Speaker B: Actually. [00:20:12] Speaker E: Sorry. Fifth edition, 2014 dungeons and dragons. [00:20:16] Speaker B: Yes. Thank you. As is the proper government Christian name. Christian. Yeah. So you look at Jack and see that he doesn't really, like. He really doesn't have very much. He's got a bag that seems to have just, like, a hodgepodge of things. Like, there's, like, a frying pan in ithemenae, like, pretty bad. And another sack that probably is food. Really, like, nothing exciting he seems to have one little, like, keychain thing that's, like, a little, like, crocheted something. It's really hard to tell what it is because the thing is, like, dirty, and it's probably. It's, like, missing. It maybe had eyes at some point. And it's like the buttons to use for eyes have fallen out. You know? Like, it's really hard to tell what it is other than that. Like, they have taken everything off of them except for, like, their cloak for warmth. And then you do see, like, one very small, like, switchblade knife, like, hooked onto a belt. But other than that, they're, like, covered up with the blanket. [00:21:34] Speaker A: Milo's gonna look at them. Do you have an iron deficiency? You just, like. You have the cloak and the blanket. And I just wanna make sure you're not too cold. And if there's any health concerns that we should be aware of, I feel like we should know. [00:21:44] Speaker D: She can make a fire. [00:21:46] Speaker A: I can make a fire. [00:21:47] Speaker B: Do you think I went to a medic recently? When do you think I went to a medic? [00:21:50] Speaker A: Well, I don't know. Sometimes people just know things about themselves. I went to some very fancy doctors when I was younger, and they told me about if I had any health conditions, this would be my health stuff. So I didn't know if that was the same in the orphanages or not. [00:22:04] Speaker D: Rich girl Milo with her tv. [00:22:05] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:22:05] Speaker C: Really? [00:22:06] Speaker D: No doctors. [00:22:10] Speaker B: No, really different. I didn't really care. [00:22:14] Speaker D: Melly, you're pretty good at this. [00:22:15] Speaker F: I can take a look. [00:22:16] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:22:18] Speaker B: I'm just gonna sleep. I'm good. I like that. Everyone. The image of everyone crowded by the table and id just laying flat and eating bread is really funny. No, I'm super good. I just wanted to sleep somewhere and this place is empty. Okay, so. [00:22:38] Speaker D: Okay. Um, Nadia, do you want a corner, too? [00:22:41] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, I forgot she was with us. [00:22:43] Speaker B: I don't. [00:22:44] Speaker D: Make some boxes in the corner, if you'd like. [00:22:46] Speaker B: No, it's fine. Just. No, I don't care. You guys know your menaces, right? [00:22:53] Speaker F: Ollie. [00:22:53] Speaker E: Just a goal. Oh. [00:22:58] Speaker B: Cool. I'm glad we figured that one out. I'm gonna lay down here and thank God you didn't steal my bedroll, too. So I'm gonna go sleep. [00:23:08] Speaker A: You can steal almost all of your shit back besides the quill. [00:23:12] Speaker B: Yeah, well, Auden also has my money and seems to think that it might be for everyone, which is questionable. [00:23:22] Speaker D: Not even realize I still had that. I'm so sorry. And she's gonna, like, reach into her. [00:23:25] Speaker C: That's really funny. [00:23:26] Speaker D: Pass it back over. I just caught up in the moment. I'm sorry. [00:23:32] Speaker B: Appreciate it. [00:23:33] Speaker C: We're so polite for having just fucking policed both her and this child. [00:23:41] Speaker A: Okay, so I could be on first watch if you want. [00:23:44] Speaker B: Great. [00:23:45] Speaker D: I can be on second watch whenever you're done. [00:23:47] Speaker A: Cool. [00:23:48] Speaker D: Goodnight. She'll roll over. [00:23:50] Speaker B: All right, dude, who's going to sleep? It's just Milo staying up. [00:23:56] Speaker A: Yep. [00:23:57] Speaker C: That has ended so well before. [00:23:59] Speaker B: Yes. Make a perception check for your watch. [00:24:05] Speaker A: Okay. Ooh, an 18. [00:24:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Seems like eventually everyone fell asleep, even Jack, who very, very lightly. It's that half snore, half breathe kind of thing where it's just a little bit there and so you can tell everyone is sound asleep. Seems like it's very quiet outside. No more movement or anything. All good. [00:24:32] Speaker A: Okay. I think Myla, for a brief second, looks towards where her party's sleeping and looks at Melwyn a little bit and thanks, but decides against going and trying. [00:24:43] Speaker C: To get that quill right now, ma'am. I swear to God. [00:24:48] Speaker A: And she thinks. She just sort of thinks to herself, well, I'll try asking first, and then if I don't ask, and then if she says no, then I'll take it. Well, not like taking it. [00:24:59] Speaker D: Like taking a quill from an adolescent. [00:25:04] Speaker A: Title of the episode. That's it. Thanks for listening to spells and whistles. Fifth edition dungeons and dragons. [00:25:09] Speaker B: Roll credits. [00:25:13] Speaker A: And she'll sort of put her hands on her little metal contraptions that are on her belt that are her quote unquote eldritch cannon and examine the sort of outer shells and do some fine tuning on it before she wakes up. Auden. [00:25:30] Speaker D: Auden is going to watch. [00:25:33] Speaker B: All right, roll me a perception check. [00:25:36] Speaker D: Ooh, I rolled pretty good. 19. [00:25:45] Speaker B: Yeah. Everything again seems pretty chill. Everyone is sound asleep. You are kind of getting into early hours. Id you get woken up. Bye. Your heart. [00:25:59] Speaker E: That's right. [00:26:01] Speaker B: It does seem to stop. And you get to a point where, like, I can't breathe and it wakes you up. [00:26:07] Speaker E: It just, like, as much as he can just, like, takes, like, clenches his hand into a fist and just starts, like, hitting the floor. [00:26:14] Speaker D: Auden will kind of, like, walk over. Like, not walk, but she'll kind of, like, scamper over and, I mean, like, medicine check. I know what's going on, but she doesn't. So I would like to medicine check him out. [00:26:29] Speaker B: Yeah, go for it. [00:26:31] Speaker D: Uh, geez. A four. [00:26:33] Speaker B: It's just like, no idea. [00:26:34] Speaker E: His chest. And then, like, points over towards Mila. [00:26:40] Speaker D: Mila. Melwyn. Can heal Melly. She's gonna go in, like, kind of, like, gently. Like, probably trying to be gently, but also, like, concerned. [00:26:49] Speaker A: Like, probably not that shit. [00:26:53] Speaker D: Hi. Edie is having a problem, and you are good at this. Melanin's up. [00:26:58] Speaker C: Melan's up and running over fingers. Based on past experience, does Melan know what's going on, or do I need to make a medicine check? [00:27:05] Speaker B: No, you're good. Amazing. [00:27:07] Speaker C: She did travel with him for a little hiatus in between, so this is probably not super new at this point. [00:27:15] Speaker B: You pretty much know that what he needs is either a very good. Just honestly, like, a magical kick to the chest. Like, you. You've started to figure out you can do almost anything that isn't a cantrip. And it'll fix. Clear. Doesn't have to be. Yeah. Like, it really. It really is. Like when you kick a machine because it's not working, it's like the same thing, but it doesn't. It's not quite as, like. Like, fully physical. So you can just do whatever to his chest. [00:27:44] Speaker C: No, I'm kidding. [00:27:45] Speaker B: Jesus Christ. [00:27:47] Speaker C: Okay, well, he still has to. [00:27:48] Speaker B: The damage. [00:27:49] Speaker C: I will not do that. I will not do that. I will do something significantly less destructive. Let me just give me a second. [00:27:58] Speaker A: Shadow fireball. [00:28:03] Speaker B: Gears inside. [00:28:07] Speaker C: I have magic missile, I guess. I don't know. That is the only first level of spell I have that doesn't do a ton of damage. [00:28:13] Speaker E: That's totally. [00:28:14] Speaker B: It doesn't have to be damaged. It can also, like, oh, can it be healing? It can just be anything amazing. [00:28:20] Speaker C: Never mind. [00:28:20] Speaker B: I'm not gonna matter it. Just as long as it's not a cantrip because cantrips aren't powerful enough for it. [00:28:25] Speaker C: As funny as it would be to just, like, pump in a bunch of damage to help fix that, I will not. Mellon will hit him with a healing word, is what she'll do. [00:28:36] Speaker B: You're good. It you like to breathe again, and then. And then about 10 seconds later, you get a sending message in your head. You just get this, like, telepathic message. It sounds like it's from Ari. Who goes, huh? Are you. Are you still alive? My. Something is wrong. I'm very scared. [00:29:00] Speaker E: What's wrong? I'm fine. Now. What's wrong? [00:29:03] Speaker B: It takes a second, and you hear another one that says, I don't know, something. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't wake up or woke up, but it was sucky, and it just hurts. Has it been happening to you? [00:29:18] Speaker E: Yes. When was your last one before this? [00:29:21] Speaker B: I don't know. A couple days ago. [00:29:24] Speaker E: Does that line up with the last one that I had? [00:29:26] Speaker B: Yeah, pretty much. She's not being very specific. [00:29:29] Speaker E: Yeah. Did you have somebody around you help you? [00:29:33] Speaker B: No, it just kind of. Of fix itself, I guess. [00:29:37] Speaker E: Okay. Um. All right, stay safe. Um. It's. I don't know why, but it's seeming like our things are linked or deteriorating at the same rate. I don't know. But if what my friends did to me helped you get back, then we're gonna be okay. As long as I'm around them for the foreseeable future. [00:30:04] Speaker B: There's, like, a good pause, probably 30 or 45 seconds, and then you hear, like, I'm really scared. I wish I could be there with you guys. [00:30:17] Speaker C: No, you don't. [00:30:19] Speaker B: And then, like, a second later, you hear this pop sound, and all of a sudden, Ari is standing in the room. [00:30:27] Speaker A: Bah. [00:30:28] Speaker E: How did you do that? [00:30:29] Speaker C: Um. [00:30:30] Speaker B: What? I don't know what. Where am I? Where are we? [00:30:33] Speaker E: Um, we're in Gosnesh. Um, that's Jack. [00:30:37] Speaker B: What? I hope he's still asleep. Jack is definitely not asleep. And is, like, doing the, like. Like, hands over the edge of the table with the eyes slightly above. Uh, the hand just, like, looking over the edge. Like. This is the weirdest thing I've seen ever. [00:30:55] Speaker C: This is the most amount of people of Mellon's age that she has ever been around. [00:30:59] Speaker B: Oh, God. Yeah, right. [00:31:02] Speaker E: Okay, well, you're here. [00:31:05] Speaker B: What was that? I don't know where so far. [00:31:08] Speaker E: Where were you before this? [00:31:10] Speaker B: I was at home. Okay, probably. [00:31:12] Speaker E: That's really cool. [00:31:13] Speaker F: Back in Ospy. [00:31:15] Speaker B: Oh, my God. Wait, how do I get back there? I have work tomorrow. I mean, today. I. [00:31:22] Speaker D: Do you think you could find someone to cover your shift? [00:31:26] Speaker B: Sorry. [00:31:29] Speaker A: It might take a message. [00:31:34] Speaker F: I think. [00:31:35] Speaker C: Could any of us get the gist of what they were talking about from the one side we got from id? [00:31:40] Speaker B: I don't know if you. Like, I'm guessing you pieced together at this point that you're talking. That he was talking to Ari. You don't know what she said right before she got here or any. Or any of the conversation. I'm trying to think through what id said and what you would have heard. Yeah, I mean, I guess, like, things lining up. That was something id said. And then, like, you know, what happened. [00:32:04] Speaker F: Are you alright? [00:32:05] Speaker B: Thats pretty much it, I think. Well, im in a different country. [00:32:09] Speaker F: I meant physically, mentally, obviously, youre having. [00:32:11] Speaker B: A. I guess I mean, like, really looks at id. Like. Did you tell them? Do you want me to tell, like. Yeah, very much alike. Do they already know? [00:32:23] Speaker E: Milo, what do you remember about when you were checking it out? What do you remember? Did you see a. Cause? [00:32:31] Speaker A: I remember that it was a physical problem and not a magical problem, which means that it's probably something with the actual configuration of your device. Which means that either you're both. Both of your devices are having this problem at the same time, or something new has magically linked them since our last check in, which was over a month ago. So that's it. [00:32:55] Speaker B: Good. Great. [00:32:57] Speaker A: But I could take a look at it again. A lot has happened in a month, and I wasn't quite aware that this was a still happening. So why am I here? [00:33:07] Speaker B: Oh, my God. [00:33:07] Speaker A: There's a lot of people here. [00:33:09] Speaker B: I'm sorry. [00:33:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:33:10] Speaker B: Who's that guy? Like, looks over at Jack? [00:33:12] Speaker A: That's Jack? [00:33:13] Speaker E: That's Jack. He's a kid. [00:33:14] Speaker A: Yeah, he's just. [00:33:16] Speaker E: He was just here. [00:33:18] Speaker A: He's really good. [00:33:19] Speaker B: Who's that? Points to Nadia. That's Nadia, like blue haired? [00:33:23] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:33:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:33:24] Speaker D: Hey, she's traveling with us for a little bit. [00:33:28] Speaker B: Right. [00:33:29] Speaker D: Millie, I don't really know how your magicy thing works, but I know sometimes you can see different kinds of magic and stuff. I mean, would there be any sort of residual thing happening from maybe the contraptions or from re showing up here? [00:33:48] Speaker F: I mean, I'm not sure, but I. [00:33:50] Speaker C: Can try the Turk magic. Oh. [00:33:56] Speaker B: I cast zone of true professional. [00:34:00] Speaker C: D and D player. [00:34:01] Speaker D: Guys, she is here. [00:34:04] Speaker B: Yeah. So other than, like, other than the regular stuff? Because you guys have a bunch of things now. Everything you've collected, it's still got the weird, like, whitish gray and yellowy and red and blue. So that's cool. [00:34:23] Speaker C: Does he still have, like, weird little mind flayer babies in his magic? [00:34:28] Speaker B: Yeah. Great. Gross. [00:34:29] Speaker C: Amazing. I'd love that for you, Ben. [00:34:32] Speaker B: Yeah, thanks. They're like slightly bigger than they were. [00:34:37] Speaker C: Melanie should not poke her face. So she definitely is just like, okay. [00:34:43] Speaker B: Horrified child face. And anybody looking at Mel when sees. [00:34:49] Speaker C: Just a brief, like, what the fuck? And then just kind of moves on to. [00:34:53] Speaker D: The compartmentalization skills of this child are impeccable. [00:34:58] Speaker C: I mean, she's missing like six emotions at least, still. [00:35:01] Speaker D: So whatever gets you there, you know? [00:35:04] Speaker B: I think it's like twelve. [00:35:06] Speaker C: I have no twelve. I don't know. [00:35:08] Speaker B: The other things of note, obviously. You see, Nadia's, like, journal has the still residual magic, but it's not magical in itself. Jack is clean. Doesn't have anything. [00:35:17] Speaker C: Ten left. [00:35:19] Speaker B: Sorry. Oh, ten. Okay. Great. [00:35:20] Speaker C: Found it. [00:35:23] Speaker B: I was like, it's in my notes somewhere. And, like, the most important things that you see are the quill, which is, like, prismatic. Yeah, I think the aura coming off of it is just, like, rainbowy, shimmery in itself. Very bright too. Like, compared to everything else, it's like a light source in your pocket. And then the other thing is that Ari is kind of giving off this same thing, like, a little bit of this, like, prismatic. It's not as bright, but it's, like, fading away as you're looking at it. [00:35:58] Speaker F: Well, there is some residual magic, and it's very similar to what the quill's giving off normal things. [00:36:07] Speaker C: Melan's very badly trying to play off the freaked out after ID's mind blayer babies. So what about Ari's device? Is there anything weird going on with that, that she's looking? [00:36:20] Speaker B: No, it seems to be the same. Where it's just, like, red and blue. She doesn't have clear mind flayer or yellow, so she's good there. [00:36:31] Speaker C: I fucking hope she doesn't have the mind flayer or the yellow. Jesus Christ. [00:36:38] Speaker B: So, yeah, she seems to be fine, other than it's, you know, a little bit weaker. [00:36:45] Speaker D: But Arden kind of looks over to my left. This is kind of like your wheelhouse. [00:36:50] Speaker A: Yeah. Are we ready to take a look at this stuff? She turns to ID and Ari. Or do we want to sleep the rest of the day first? Or, I guess night or. I don't know. This has been kind of a weird subject around us all, so I just am like, I want to get this shit figured out. [00:37:12] Speaker C: No idea what any of this is. [00:37:15] Speaker E: Ari, chill for a bit so you can get a little bit calmer and everything. [00:37:22] Speaker D: I can make you a corner if you'd like. [00:37:25] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:37:26] Speaker B: She looks over a Jack squirrel. Good. [00:37:29] Speaker D: I'd make it nicer, because I know you. [00:37:35] Speaker B: I would rather just stay here if you guys are fine with it. [00:37:39] Speaker E: Cool. Myla, if it's a mechanical problem, do you think you have materials that could replace or repair parts? [00:37:48] Speaker A: I mean, I have a lot of stuff in the bag from the travels, and she pulls out basically little things that she's found, you think? A third of which probably on the ground in the travels, but pulls out a bunch of different little bits of bobs and pieces and loose wires and really small, like, everything is really small and ornate, either from working on her gun or almost like she had been meticulously saving it because she wasn't sure what she would need in the future with smaller contraptions. And she's like, I have a lot of stuff here, so I can take a look at it. If it is going to use some arcane power, I would prefer to finish sleeping first because I'm still feeling a little tuckered out. But if we're just looking at it physically, I can do that. Right now my brain's used to not sleeping. [00:38:38] Speaker E: I think this should be just a physical look and see if we can figure out what the thing is. [00:38:44] Speaker A: Okay. [00:38:45] Speaker B: Of note, you have not finished a long rest, so hopefully you're still working on off of non long rest and sheets. [00:38:55] Speaker A: Okay, well, let's take a look and I'll um, I'll figure it out. [00:38:59] Speaker E: Um, does anybody have any enhancing magic that they could use to help Myla out? [00:39:06] Speaker C: No, son. I wish I did. I have spare the dying, so neither of you will die. And I also think, uh, last I checked, Melan has the equivalent of at least one diamond somewhere on her. So from selling off the thing, I can. [00:39:25] Speaker A: I can help myself out a little bit. [00:39:29] Speaker D: Do you have anything like that helpful? I know you're not super pleased. [00:39:33] Speaker B: I don't know. I can. I guess if Mila needs something specific, then she let me know. [00:39:40] Speaker F: All right, cuz you can draw it. Sorry. [00:39:43] Speaker D: Yeah, we have to draw and you can contraption. [00:39:47] Speaker E: I would. I'm gonna hope just parts. I don't. This is kind of a complicated thing. [00:39:54] Speaker B: Sure, yeah. Also, you know, I work off of references a lot, so I have to. Yeah, I'm fine with watching a day and then. [00:40:06] Speaker F: Is it kind of. [00:40:08] Speaker B: I'm saying the whole thing, not like parts, but just like the whole thing. [00:40:11] Speaker F: If you can. Is it a kind of like. If you think it, you can make it sort of thing? [00:40:16] Speaker B: I guess so, yeah. [00:40:17] Speaker A: Like in that squirrel. Barbie Rapunzel. [00:40:20] Speaker C: Oh my God. [00:40:25] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. No, I watched that as a kid. [00:40:27] Speaker C: You are the worst. [00:40:29] Speaker E: It is undoing his like, chest plate of armor. [00:40:33] Speaker A: Ben said we are moving the fuck on. [00:40:35] Speaker E: We're moving on. [00:40:36] Speaker D: Not dwelling on Barbie. [00:40:39] Speaker E: Barbie lawyers are meticulous. [00:40:41] Speaker B: Does it hurt to open it? Does it hurt? [00:40:45] Speaker E: Yeah, it feels gross. It's like. It's like leaving your mouth open when it's like you're around really stinky air, but in your chest. I don't know. He starts using his fingernails to unscrew the screws that are holding the top cover on. [00:41:06] Speaker C: It's a man of action, not a man of words. [00:41:11] Speaker B: Milo, what do you want to look at? You're just looking at id right now. Right. Not re too. [00:41:15] Speaker A: Yeah. Just id you have info to go. [00:41:18] Speaker B: Off of already, so, like, I'm not gonna make it. This an impossible thing for you. Like. [00:41:23] Speaker A: Yeah, no, yeah, that's fair, I think. Myla takes out her journal that she has had and flips through. And you see that there's a few pages that are sort of like dog eared with this, a darker blue scrap paper she had torn into several pieces. And on each page, it's fervorous but meticulously drawn diagrams coinciding with information that they learned in the laboratories. And you could tell she's been working on this and thinking about it and ruminating on it for weeks and weeks and weeks. And so she's hopping around between papers. I think the first thing she's going to look at is she's going to just look at the. Sorry. She's just going to look at the device. She's going to see if anything has changed from the last time she looked into it. [00:42:18] Speaker B: Yeah. Can you roll an investigation check? [00:42:21] Speaker A: I sure can. [00:42:23] Speaker B: It's still going to be gatekept by rolls, but that's okay. [00:42:28] Speaker D: Is there anything that Auden could do to offer the help? Action. Like, I know that she and Myla spent some time working together in the shop over the time skip. I don't know if she would really know much about the contraption of the device, but maybe just adding a fresh pair of eyes or something. [00:42:46] Speaker B: I mean, you can be Myla's surgical assistant. Scalpel wrench. Yeah. [00:42:55] Speaker A: I also think that this is something that Myla has been like. Mylae, I think over that, like, month had been really open with like, all of her hyper fixations. And so she would just ramble, like, whenever they were both, like, doing work separately or like, would be like getting ready for like, whatever. She would just like, ramble be like. And as I was looking at that drawing, I ended up seeing this, which I didn't notice from before, and she was like, so, yeah, I think that Auden would have a pretty good idea of like, the stuff that's in her notebook and stuff. [00:43:27] Speaker B: Cool. Melvin will also with her plus 13. She definitely needs advantage and help on this situation. [00:43:36] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:43:37] Speaker C: Melanie will also clean off and sterilize to the best of her ability all the tools using breasted agitation, if she can. [00:43:43] Speaker A: Yes. [00:43:44] Speaker B: I love it. [00:43:45] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh, we love it. My higher role, the last thing you. [00:43:48] Speaker C: Need is an infection. [00:43:50] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:43:51] Speaker D: More goo and id. More goo and id, please. [00:43:55] Speaker A: My role was a natural 19, which brings it to a 32. Jesus. [00:44:02] Speaker C: Christ. [00:44:06] Speaker D: What a legend. Heart eyes emoji. [00:44:13] Speaker B: There is like a nagging feel like you're looking around. There is a nagging feel. Feeling that something has changed. And it's not like immediately obvious from the front. You think that looking at Ari might connect the dots for you. I won't make you roll again for it, but if you want to do that, then I could maybe give you more. [00:44:36] Speaker A: Ari, I know we said we weren't going to look at this right now, but do you mind if we take a look at yours too? It might be really helpful. [00:44:47] Speaker B: Sure. [00:44:48] Speaker A: Okay, perfect. We love to see it. Okay. [00:44:53] Speaker B: Okay. So I guess I just. Yeah, she just lays down. [00:44:57] Speaker A: Go ahead as well. And then, yeah, I'll take a deep breath. And it's like horror, but also like, adrenaline rush of, like, having this is gonna sound so psychotic. Like, the horror, but the adrenaline rush of having people's lives at your disposal and is just like, information. Yes. As she sort of goes into, like. [00:45:22] Speaker B: Yeah. You look at Ari and you look at id and you realize that with the info that they're synced up and that they seem to be happening at the same time. You like, look, and I think I'm just gonna. Just because of cool role, there's like a little bit of myla specific. I don't even particularly want to call it magic because it's not really magic, but just an overlay of, oh, my God, this could be happening and this can be happening. And all these possibilities and they all center on this one point where you think that this seems to be some kind of countdown timer between them both. [00:46:13] Speaker D: Oh, what are you seeing? [00:46:17] Speaker A: It's like it's leading up to something or nothing. And I think her brow furrows and she goes a little further in. Can she tell? Is Id like, further along than Ari or are they on the same timer? [00:46:32] Speaker B: They seem like theyre on the same timer. You arent sure when the end is. Theres not like an obvious little ticking clock. Your best extrapolation guess is that these started three months ago, so you probably have some time, but you're guessing that it's a little over. I don't know, that it's a little bit more than half. You know, like they're getting more frequent and harder to, like. Like, resist. So whatever that means. [00:47:06] Speaker A: Okay. Okay. You guys don't react too much because we need to figure out what we're still doing with this. As she's looking to both ID and. [00:47:14] Speaker E: Ari, it's still laying on the chest on the ground with his chest open. [00:47:20] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:47:20] Speaker B: Yeah. So is Ari. Yeah, she's not moving. [00:47:24] Speaker A: So here's the thing. You guys seem to be on a synchronized countdown to something, I don't know what, which is kind of concerning. So my question to you is, I mean, maybe I can try and slow it down. I don't think I can stop it. So I can try and, like, delay it. Or I'm wondering if maybe I can reinforce the red and blue magics that are coursing throughout both of your guys veins. And, like, in circulatory systems, if I'm able to strengthen that, maybe that could help fight off the timer in a way. You know, kind of like fighting off a virus or something like that. I can try a little bit of. [00:48:04] Speaker E: Go back a little bit. Timer to what? [00:48:08] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:48:10] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know what that is either. [00:48:11] Speaker E: Can I. I'm looking. [00:48:13] Speaker B: Can I put my thing back on for now? [00:48:16] Speaker A: For now? Yes. Yeah. Yeah, you can put it on for now. That's okay. Just be careful. Let me. And she'll, like, put. Put it sort of back together for Ari and be like, okay, there you go. Gotta be careful with that thing. Get it? Cause it's your heart. [00:48:35] Speaker B: Yeah. Cool. [00:48:36] Speaker E: Well, yeah, they're doing that. Can it. I have plus zero in history. Was there any time where any of the scientists made mention of, like, a self destruct kind of thing or, like, anything? [00:48:51] Speaker B: Make history check. Yeah, I like it. [00:48:56] Speaker E: I just crit. [00:48:58] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, my gosh. [00:48:59] Speaker A: You're telling a story. Telling a story. You just rolled a natural 20. And D and D. Fifth edition. [00:49:05] Speaker B: That's a great fifth edition regular. D and D. Five E. Oh, my God. [00:49:10] Speaker E: 2014 led by Christopher Perkins. [00:49:14] Speaker D: Whoa. [00:49:15] Speaker B: You're like a weird montage of memory scanning and you're not finding anything. A couple of little drawings kind of pop up that are in your brain that you maybe saw briefly for a second, and for some reason they're coming back. That, like. But it didn't really mean anything. It was just kind of, like, red. And it just seemed like a drawing of some kind of mechanism, like, I don't know. But the one that really sticks out to you is the last ca colle saying to you, you're all going to destroy the world. [00:49:56] Speaker E: Oh, fucked. [00:49:58] Speaker D: I. Oh, no, they're all bombs. [00:50:01] Speaker E: Okay, cool. [00:50:03] Speaker B: That's where we'll end this episode next day. [00:50:05] Speaker F: Whoa. [00:50:07] Speaker B: This episode.
