Episode Transcript

[00:00:00] Speaker A: 3, 2, 1. Chosen. Chosen. [00:00:05] Speaker B: I think that we should keep it all at whatever time it's at. [00:00:08] Speaker C: It was so awesome for me. [00:00:12] Speaker A: No, it's perfect. [00:00:31] Speaker D: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to episode five of Chosen. It has a name now. Our Tunnel Goons miniseries did not have a name when we recorded the first. [00:00:42] Speaker B: Two parts because actually, it didn't get that far. Chose Threein. [00:00:47] Speaker D: Oh, I've been pronouncing it wrong. [00:00:49] Speaker C: Choz. Threeen. [00:00:50] Speaker D: My bad ink actually chose Thryan. [00:00:54] Speaker B: Chuzhrine. [00:00:54] Speaker C: Chust. [00:00:55] Speaker B: That's the name of my next D and D character. [00:00:58] Speaker D: Love it. Are they a Thri. Queen? [00:01:01] Speaker B: Yes. [00:01:02] Speaker D: Yes. Classic. It's been so fun so far. I'm having a blast. And I hope that you all at home that are listening are also enjoying it. Because even if you're not, I'm gonna keep doing it. So here we go. I'll probably cut that out. [00:01:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:01:22] Speaker D: Okay, so I got a lock in. [00:01:24] Speaker B: You have to like it. [00:01:26] Speaker D: You're under contractual obligation to enjoy this. [00:01:30] Speaker A: Once you open the game for the session, you can't log back out. [00:01:33] Speaker D: You have to figure out it's an ultra high frequency agreement that by listening, you have to like it. [00:01:40] Speaker B: Except for you, Disney employee. You know you're out there. That's a spells and whistles main campaign joke. There is a. It's an arc. [00:01:49] Speaker D: And the break will fill you in on that. [00:01:51] Speaker B: We got you. [00:01:52] Speaker C: Awesome. [00:01:54] Speaker B: It's okay. [00:01:57] Speaker D: Well. Previously on Chose Threeen. Or Chosen. Whatever you wanna call it Previously. I'm too silly. I gotta rein it in. Geez, Louise. [00:02:11] Speaker B: The penultimate. [00:02:12] Speaker A: You think we're recording this at 2am In a warehouse? [00:02:18] Speaker C: If it's 10 degrees outside. [00:02:22] Speaker D: I was so normal at work all day today, so I have to come home and be a little freak about it, I guess. [00:02:28] Speaker B: As you should. [00:02:28] Speaker D: Okay. Previously on Chosen. Our heroes found themselves deep in somewhere underground, traveling through these mysterious tunnels and caverns leading them to who knows where. They found themselves in a green kind of gully cavern, Cenote almost, but not watery. And found a little creature named Pothos, who begrudgingly helped them on their way. Before they settled in for a long winter's nap. Just kidding. It's not winter. Before they settled in for a night's rest. Their rest, however, was interrupted as a slight trickle of water began to encroach upon them. And tracing it back to the source, they saw things that they probably would rather not have seen. A watery hand reaching from the weeping wall. And so they gathered their things and they took off with their flower down the Rest of the path outrunning as much of this water as they could. And that's where we'll pick up our session today. Heroes, chosen ones, you guys are just hauling through these tunnels still just kind of like one track. But as you go, you can kind of hear this echoing, reverberating, splashing, running water sound that is just ever present. It feels like it's right behind you, but every time you look, you just see the slightest kind of flow of water towards you. Is there anything that you would like to do, or are you just focused on running? [00:04:07] Speaker C: I think we're running, right? [00:04:10] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm running. I'm not having a good time right now, referee. I'm having a bad time. [00:04:17] Speaker D: Oh, yeah, Sorry, Sport. Sport. Gatsby core. [00:04:24] Speaker B: I think as we're running, Finn is just, like, calling out. You know, obviously, the flower lights up when we're nice to each other, but he's like, I don't know, maybe it deters water or has some sort of magical power that makes bad things go away. So he's, like, complimenting everyone as they're running about the randomest things, like, aunt, your purple hair is really cool. And Tesley, oh, my gosh. You know, so many words, and your vocabulary is, like, absolutely insane as they're all sort of, like, running down this way. [00:04:54] Speaker D: Yeah. The flower has this kind of constant, consistent pulse of light to it as you are running and you're running uphill, so your legs begin to feel very strained. You're sort of picking up kind of maybe with the amount of uphill that you've gone so far even before you settled in for your rest. Like, you're probably at a higher elevation than you're used to being. And so just kind of your lungs begin to burn ever so slightly as you're continuing upward on this incline. And eventually it kind of plateaus out and you no longer hear the running water. You no longer see anything coming from behind you. It is once again quiet, except for a low, not rumbling sound, because that makes it sound like the ceiling is about to cave in, but like a low whistling sound. Yeah. [00:05:53] Speaker B: I hate it. I hate it. I hate it so much. [00:05:56] Speaker A: Are we still indoors? Are we still. [00:06:01] Speaker D: Yes, you're still underground. [00:06:03] Speaker A: Underground. Okay. [00:06:05] Speaker C: I said rumbling makes it sound like the ceiling's gonna collapse. Does it mean that, like, this whistling is coming from above? [00:06:13] Speaker D: That's kind of what it sounds like. Have you ever been in, like. Like a basement when it's really windy outside? [00:06:21] Speaker C: I've never been in a basement. No, I have My laundry room's in a basement. But not when they're gonna wind. No. [00:06:28] Speaker D: I see. Well, what houses will do in basements especially is when it's really windy. This is my Midwestern knowledge kicking in here is that you'll kind of hear, like, the foundation, like, shifting ever so slightly. Just kind of the force of wind against window panes, against studs, and, like, the faces of the walls and everything. Like, there's just this kind of, like, pressure and this pent up kind of creaking almost. Obviously this isn't made out of wood. This is a mountain or a hill or something. But there's still that kind of like, like, thrumming, whooshing sound that you're picking up on. [00:07:09] Speaker A: So does anyone know what that is? Should we be concerned, or are we just glad it's not water? [00:07:18] Speaker C: Can I pull into my brain and see if Tesley's ever been in a windy basement situation? [00:07:22] Speaker D: Situation, Absolutely. [00:07:25] Speaker A: There's lots of basements in your caravan. [00:07:30] Speaker C: Well, this is six. [00:07:32] Speaker B: The caravan of the travel basement. [00:07:34] Speaker D: Oh, I forgot to set you a difficulty score. I think that, like, even if Tessily hasn't been in a basement, the archive that your people and your kind of caravan, pilgrimage to, for lack of a better word, does have that kind of. You've heard it there and then, and so I think you're able to clock. It just sounds like very high winds happening outside, but the fact that you're hearing them is probably a good sign, meaning that you're closer to the surface. [00:08:07] Speaker C: All right. Sounds like the storm hasn't let up. Pretty windy out. Getting close, though. Should be an exit, hopefully around here somewhere. [00:08:22] Speaker A: Who has the plant? I can't remember if Tess. [00:08:26] Speaker C: I think I do, because I was like, do you want the plant? And you're like, no, it's fine. It's so cute. [00:08:32] Speaker A: I did really want the plant, but I was letting you have it. I do recall this. This sounds correct. [00:08:38] Speaker B: Yes. [00:08:38] Speaker D: Who got, like, attempted snatched by the hand from the wall. Okay. I think then at that moment, you had the plant, but maybe you passed it back to Tesley. [00:08:48] Speaker A: I could say now I passed it to you. Tesley, we're gonna keep consistency here. There we go. Now Tesla has the plan. [00:08:54] Speaker C: Do you not want the plan? [00:08:56] Speaker A: I'm letting everyone have a turn with the plant. [00:08:59] Speaker D: Okay. [00:08:59] Speaker B: I didn't get a turn with the plant. [00:09:01] Speaker A: Before the. Before this adventure's over, everyone will get to hold the plant. [00:09:06] Speaker B: Well, I guess I got to hold it while everyone else was sleeping, but that felt kind of like a Ch. Never mind. It's fine. It's okay. [00:09:12] Speaker D: It's fine. [00:09:12] Speaker E: Whatever. [00:09:13] Speaker B: It's fine. [00:09:14] Speaker C: Whatever. [00:09:14] Speaker A: But yeah, I think Ant is gonna start still going in the same direction that we were headed. But I guess, like, slow down to a walk and try to catch his breath. He's a little bit. He's built like a long distance runner, but he doesn't do a lot of running. [00:09:30] Speaker D: So it's hard to run in sand. [00:09:34] Speaker A: Yeah, it sucks. That's why you just sandboard everywhere. [00:09:38] Speaker C: That's why you're built like a long distance runner. So that you can walk normal speed in the sand. It cancels out. [00:09:44] Speaker A: Exactly. Exactly. [00:09:49] Speaker C: Has anybody got any, like a bucket? Anything, like a handle? [00:09:55] Speaker A: I have a backpack. [00:09:57] Speaker B: I have a. What do you mean a handle? [00:10:03] Speaker C: Like, so I can put Bud in it and then hook it to my oar. Like, her ore's got a little hook underneath the handle that's meant for a lantern. [00:10:18] Speaker B: I have a cloak. We could tie it around. Or. Yeah, your backpack. Or I have my runesport. Or we could put it in. I could take the stuff out of my lantern and we could put it in the lantern. [00:10:32] Speaker C: Then we might need your lantern, especially down here. Well, I guess Bud's pretty bright. [00:10:39] Speaker B: You just have to be nice to each other. [00:10:41] Speaker C: Yeah. It's not so hard. Just, just, Just an idea. Just to get. Make sure that we have free hands. [00:10:51] Speaker B: Yeah. In case we need them. I'll take all of the, like, inside stuff out of my lantern. Like, whatever is in it. I don't know if it's an oil lantern or like an electric lantern, but, like, whatever is in it, I will take it out. So that way we can make a little case. [00:11:08] Speaker A: Make a vase. [00:11:13] Speaker D: Yeah. Awesome. You have Bud now secured in the lantern casing. [00:11:19] Speaker C: Probably also more secure. Yeah, probably also more secure than like keeping like a cloche on the pot. [00:11:27] Speaker D: Yeah, now, now. But is secure as you're walking. Finn, I think you might be a rememberer of this. You remember talking to Pothos, the weird frog plant thing? Who kind of gave you directions on how to get out? You. You said go forward and then go up and up and up and then you'll be there. [00:11:52] Speaker E: What. [00:11:52] Speaker D: What does Finn think that that means? [00:11:55] Speaker B: When I think that when he says go forward and then go up and up and up. I think that. I think that Finn's thinking like, oh, there's gonna be like a staircase or something. But I think that as we're not really seeing it, the further that we go, I think that he's gonna start Looking up at wherever there might be like, maybe like holes or cracks in the ceiling maybe or something. My gut instinct is like, if there's no way at the end of this to take us up, we're gonna have to go up ourselves. So I think that he's just keeping an eye, especially after hearing that the, like, grumbling and grinding and the wind howling of just like, anywhere that could be like a break or something in the ceiling or the cavern to take us up where we could carry ourselves up. [00:12:54] Speaker D: Yeah. Awesome. Roll me, please. An erudite check. Difficulty of eight. [00:13:01] Speaker B: I think I made it an eight exactly. Yes, it's an eight. It's a four and a three and a bud. [00:13:08] Speaker D: Hooray. Awesome. Yeah, I think you're kind of strolling along. The light from the flower from bud is illuminating this sort of tunnel in a warm orange glow. And as you're kind of analyzing the ceiling, you notice a distinct cut in the wall that goes like, wall, ceiling, wall, like an upside down U shape. It seems like this chunk has been, like, segmented in some way ahead. You see that it carries on before it comes to, like, an open doorway. [00:13:43] Speaker B: I think that, like, I'll sort of slow down because I'm taking, like, the back of this group and I'll point to what I see is this cavern behavior. [00:13:58] Speaker D: I don't know cavern behavior. [00:13:59] Speaker A: Right. [00:14:02] Speaker D: Tesla, you know that it's definitely not cavern behavior to have such clean cleaves in the stone like this. Very unusual. [00:14:10] Speaker C: That is certainly not cavern behavior to have such clean cleaves in a stone like that. [00:14:17] Speaker A: It's like you read it out of a textbook or something. [00:14:23] Speaker C: Now what? [00:14:27] Speaker D: That was really funny. [00:14:29] Speaker A: God spoke to me. [00:14:30] Speaker D: Take an extra, like, plus one that you can apply to something later on. That really made me laugh a lot. [00:14:35] Speaker B: That was so good. [00:14:37] Speaker D: That was really silly. That's a good bit. [00:14:39] Speaker C: I love meta jokes. Thank you. [00:14:44] Speaker B: So there's the weird shit and then there's the doorway. Should we see what's through the doorway still? Or does it look like, like, I know that it's like, cleanly, like, cut. Is that just showing that, like, the craftsmanship in the actual cavern has shifted or, like, is there, like, can I see, like, the sky at all if there's, like, if the storm's getting worse. [00:15:12] Speaker D: Or it doesn't seem to lead above ground? You're kind of like, you know, covering the lamp a little bit to see if you can get any, like, any different color happening in the crack or anything. You're like, putting your hand up to it, feeling for a draft, and you're not feeling anything. And it's not until you wedge your hand into the wall ever so slightly that you feel like a switch of some kind in the wall. [00:15:43] Speaker B: A switch? [00:15:45] Speaker D: Oh, like a light switch. [00:15:48] Speaker B: Can I flip it? [00:15:51] Speaker D: You flip it, and there's this brief sound of stone on stone, and then it stops, and nothing seems to happen. [00:16:01] Speaker B: I'll flip it back down again just in case. I think I found something to go up and up and up. [00:16:14] Speaker A: What did you do? [00:16:15] Speaker B: Yeah, what? There's a switch in here, and I think maybe somebody. Maybe it's like when we saw the sky reader. She had that thing where you stand on it and you pull it all the way up, and it takes you up to. Maybe it's like that, but not really. Maybe I'll go through the doorway area and see what's in that area, see if I can make sense of this contraption of sorts. [00:16:47] Speaker D: One thing about your journey so far is that everywhere you have walked, the tunnel has continued onward. But you pass through this doorway, and it seems like just a small, square room. There is no tunnel or pathway beyond here. [00:17:06] Speaker B: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I'll go back, and I'll be like, does somebody want to go up? Ant, you want to be out of here? [00:17:18] Speaker A: Sorry. There's helicopters flying over, so let me. Yeah. [00:17:25] Speaker B: Ladies and gentlemen, we got him. [00:17:28] Speaker A: Yeah, it's. They're gonna bust through the door. They're gonna kick in the. [00:17:32] Speaker D: Get you. They're gonna take Bud. [00:17:35] Speaker A: They want Bud. [00:17:38] Speaker D: He doesn't even have them. [00:17:40] Speaker A: Yeah, sorry. [00:17:40] Speaker D: Oh, yeah, sorry. I keep forgetting. [00:17:42] Speaker A: So you just said that, you know, like, Ant wants out of here, and he's like, absolutely. What do I need to do? I will flip a switch. [00:17:54] Speaker B: The scary room. [00:17:57] Speaker A: All right. And Ant's gonna go stand in the room. [00:18:02] Speaker D: All right. Yeah. Ant, you pass into this room. Is Finn still in there, too, or did Finn leave? [00:18:09] Speaker B: I think Finn is backing out because I think that he wants to try and flip the switch with somebody in that room to see if anything happens. [00:18:18] Speaker E: Cool. [00:18:19] Speaker D: Ant, you find yourself, you know, in this room pretty blank. Finn, you flip the switch, and there's that kind of stone on stone grinding sound again. And then it looks as if the whole room begins to move upward, and you kind of feel yourself, like, unsteady just a little bit as the floor begins to move. And you see this window of this doorway that you came through shrinking and getting smaller and smaller. And as you see this, you realize Tesley still has the plant. When I move on, I am going to be in a completely pitch black room all by myself going who knows where. [00:18:57] Speaker A: Yeah. I think Ant starts to like, crouch as the like door gets. The window gets smaller and smaller. He's like, hey, everyone. Hey. I think it's moving up. It's dark. It's gonna get dark. [00:19:08] Speaker D: It's gonna get dark. It goes all the way up. You cannot hear Ant anymore. [00:19:13] Speaker B: If I stop the switch, does the room stop moving? [00:19:17] Speaker D: You flick the switch down and it pauses for a minute before it begins to slowly move back down the box. [00:19:26] Speaker B: Okay. [00:19:26] Speaker D: Ant is still in the box. [00:19:28] Speaker B: Okay, so here's what I'm thinking. Tesla, you go over there. I'm gonna flip the switch. And as it slowly starts moving, I'm just gonna run forward, go for it. [00:19:37] Speaker A: Dive. [00:19:38] Speaker B: Yeah. So I'm going to wait till it goes all the way down. [00:19:41] Speaker A: I am a little more skull skulky. What is it? [00:19:49] Speaker D: That is calkery. [00:19:51] Speaker A: Yeah, as. As the. As they said when I was a kid that I was a little more skulkery. If you want me to flip the switch and make a diver. I'm also kind of smaller. I could probably really, really slide on it. [00:20:04] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, yeah, Great. That's fine. For sure. [00:20:08] Speaker A: Cool. Love this idea. So Ant will back out of the room and like get ready. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Absolutely. [00:20:16] Speaker D: Awesome. Yeah. The room kind of settles on the floor and that grinding sound comes to a halt. Tesselly and Finn kind of gather in the room. Tesley is still kind of holding the plant acting as like a guide, you know, like this way for you and, and you flip that switch as you are running toward the room. Can you please make me a skulker check? This is going to be a difficulty score of nine. [00:20:46] Speaker A: Okay. It's. It's really good to have a lot of experience. You know when you run, you like hit the garage door and you run and you gotta jump over the last thing. [00:20:54] Speaker D: This is what we're doing. [00:20:56] Speaker A: This is what we're doing. Okay, so 9 2D6 plus whatever your sculpt plus my sculk score. [00:21:06] Speaker D: Oh, my gosh. [00:21:08] Speaker A: That's. That's high. [00:21:09] Speaker D: I totally forgot to go over level up stuff. So when you get after I dive in the elevator. [00:21:13] Speaker A: It's a loading screen in the elevator. [00:21:16] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:21:16] Speaker A: All right. That is going to be. [00:21:18] Speaker D: You unlock more character customization options. Oh, my gosh. [00:21:21] Speaker B: Thirteen. [00:21:22] Speaker A: Yeah. I'm going to look cool doing it. [00:21:24] Speaker D: Yeah. Tell me how it looks then. If the. [00:21:27] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:27] Speaker D: Soaring above this difficulty score Here I. [00:21:30] Speaker A: Think Ant has, like, ready, has a hand, gets ready, flips the switch. And as he flips the switch, he starts running, but he pulls the sandboard off his back and runs and kind of like, jumps feet first and, like, slides with the sandboard because it would have been too wide, you know, so you had to turn it diagonal or perpendicular, whatever, turn it and, like, jump and slide underneath the closing gap. It's real cool. [00:22:07] Speaker D: Awesome. That's so cool. Yeah. And just this streak of purple. And suddenly all three of you are in the elevator. It's slow moving. You kind of see the walls, like, moving downward as you move upward. And you have a moment to yourselves. At this moment, let's discuss what you guys did for your level up. Oopsies. Only took us halfway through the episode to get there. [00:22:37] Speaker A: It's the mass effect. [00:22:38] Speaker D: It was intense. [00:22:39] Speaker A: Yeah. It's the mass effect loading screen where they just. You have conversations for, like, three minutes, just loading as you go between levels. And we're like, oh, hey, do you feel a little like. I feel a little more skulkery because I took one in skulker, Another one skulker and another hp because that seemed like we're gonna fight some stuff. Perhaps that's what I did. [00:23:12] Speaker D: I was going to tell me what to do. [00:23:16] Speaker C: Thank you so much. [00:23:16] Speaker B: Go. [00:23:17] Speaker D: Okay. [00:23:18] Speaker C: I also took one in HP because that seemed like the better option. And I took one in Brute because she's getting a little tougher. She's finding some stuff. It's fun getting a little more brutally. [00:23:34] Speaker D: Brutally nice. Finn, tell us about your level up. [00:23:40] Speaker B: I also took another HP because we're gonna die. [00:23:48] Speaker D: Your confidence in yourselves astounds me. [00:23:51] Speaker B: And I also took another one in Brute for a total of plus three to Brute. [00:23:55] Speaker A: Damn. [00:23:55] Speaker B: Oh, my goodness. Because boy's got gains before he dies. [00:24:01] Speaker D: Heck, yeah. [00:24:02] Speaker C: Stop making a fist. [00:24:03] Speaker A: He hit puberty again. [00:24:05] Speaker B: He hit puberty again. [00:24:08] Speaker C: He was so good at it the first time, he had to do it again. God was like, you know what? [00:24:15] Speaker B: Only. Only the chosen ones. [00:24:17] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:24:19] Speaker D: The Chosethrin. [00:24:21] Speaker B: The Chosethrin. [00:24:23] Speaker D: Yeah. You guys are kind of sitting here. You're not sure how long this elevator is gonna last, but you have some peace and quiet for a little bit. [00:24:34] Speaker E: Is there anything you guys wish to discuss? [00:24:39] Speaker C: Not discuss, but while we're in there, kind of like using the light of Bud to look and see if there's anything hidden on, like, the walls. I know that there's probably not, but, like, you know, just kind of. Just a little curious looking at Stuff. [00:24:59] Speaker D: That's a great, great question. I won't make you roll from it poor ceiling or floor because I don't think it would be that difficult. But as you're sort of scanning the, you know, kind of doing a little like lighthouse turn with Buddha, you see the occasional like handprint on the wall of like, you see some big ones and some like really small ones. And it's like, oh, maybe in the past people were here with like families or you know, maybe it was like a coming of age thing and people returned here year after year. You are able to see that and you see two, I don't want to call them stick figures, but kind of, you know, very like simple drawings of two individuals. One has kind of a long flowing hair, the other one has like shorter, maybe like shoulder length kind of hair. You see this like recurring kind of drawing of these two as you continue upward. In the first one, they seem to be like having a good time like near a chasm or a body of water of some kind. In another one there is two of them sort of sitting next to a tree of some kind. And then for a while it's just the one with the long hair. You see depictions of like houses, but they don't seem to be like in good condition. It almost looks like there are like decay happening or a fire or something. Like it seems that like this sort of collection of homes and houses is being destroyed. And you see that one by itself, either looking at it or having escaped from it or something, not quite sure. You see that same one with the long hair. You see it standing in front of a field and the field seems to be not abundant. There is no growth, no crops. You see this same figure in front of like a crowd of people and it looks like there are people fighting within the middle of this crowd. And you see kind of this like series of events unfold as this long haired figure is watching these like just not so good things happening. Presumably in a time before you all knew in Ruhn and after so long. The second figure is back in the picture painted as if they are discussing something with each other before. You know in cartoons how a lot of times there will be like a scribble above someone's head to indicate that they are upset or angry. And it's sort of something like that. But this big swirling cloud begins to be associated with this long haired individual. And over time you see more distance between these two figures, the shorter haired and the longer haired. Like there's kind of a gap and a pause before you see just the short haired figure painted. They seem to be holding some kind of stick or pole or something. Holding it up to their head, either like a trumpet or a spyglass or something. You're not quite sure the details of it. It's not a super thorough drawing. And then you see just the walls become completely covered in these swirling rain cloud drawings all over and just rain and rain and rain until all of the wall is glowing in this sort of like bright orange glow. It seems like whatever they were using to paint has entirely encased like the walls here. [00:29:03] Speaker C: That was so good. Thank you so much. [00:29:06] Speaker D: You're welcome. That's what you see. [00:29:08] Speaker B: Yay. [00:29:09] Speaker C: Oh boy. Yeah, I'm taking that all in, writing down what I can. I'm trying to decipher that in my, my brain pointing it out to the boys, the men. [00:29:28] Speaker A: Yeah. I think Ant kind of traces over some of the like storm cloud imagery as, as he sees it and goes. Do you think they fought? Was it the storm? The storms are from like a falling out, two people fighting. [00:29:57] Speaker D: Maybe. [00:30:00] Speaker C: Not a bad theory. [00:30:02] Speaker B: Maybe she's upset that he left her alone. Maybe or them. Sorry, I should resume. [00:30:19] Speaker A: I mean, but to. It's kind of, it's kind of a lot. That's a big reaction for to, to make a giant storm that rains stormlings that feels aggressive. [00:30:37] Speaker C: Yeah. This has been some pretty big feelings. Something really awful. [00:30:50] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:51] Speaker C: But these like people or some kind of gods or what? [00:31:06] Speaker B: In my few months as a library guide. [00:31:14] Speaker A: Your summer job. My summer job before going to college. [00:31:19] Speaker B: Yeah. Did I hear any like mythos or fables or anything like that that might sound or have been like a theory of why something like this would happen? Like, like basically looking at these pictures. Can I think of any story off the top of my head that would like equate to it? [00:31:45] Speaker D: That's a great question. I think the thing that comes to mind is that Ruhn, the civilizations of Ruhn, are not the first to inhabit the island. Ever since, you know, kind of the current history, there have always been ruins. There have been sort of archaeological findings. There have been all kinds of like hints that there were people here before, but nobody knows what happened to them. One of the leading theories was some kind of big flood that wiped everyone and everything out. Looking at kind of just the display ahead of you, you can see the buildings in the pictures that sort of line up with, you know, what they assumed the full architecture to look like. The amount of rain clouds. It very well could have been this. [00:32:48] Speaker B: I think Finn realizes that and Looks around at the storm clouds and has this, like, that. That tingle in your chest before you're about to, like, do something for the first time you've never done before, you know? And he says, well, there may have been a flood before, but maybe they didn't have Chosen Ones. So I don't know. [00:33:45] Speaker A: Yeah. And they didn't have Bud, so who's also a Chosen One. Bud's also Chosen One. He was there at the start to. [00:33:54] Speaker D: Kind of, like, look towards this, like, plant companion of yours. And as you're looking, you see something drip down from the ceiling. A drop of water landing on the glass of the lantern. [00:34:09] Speaker A: I don't like that. I think Ant is gonna, like, back up against the wall a little bit and be like, is this elevator taking us into giant thing of water? Are we just gonna emerge into water? This could be bad. Didn't occur to Ant that we could be going up to water. [00:34:34] Speaker C: I'm gonna look up where the water come from. Came from. [00:34:40] Speaker D: Similar to your trek in the halls earlier. You see kind of drops of water kind of pooling towards the middle and dropping in a somewhat steady flow at this point. Okay. [00:35:00] Speaker C: If we do come up into water, I can swim pretty well. If you want to hold onto me, just close your eyes. [00:35:11] Speaker A: Great. It sounds fantastic. What's the water doing so high up here? I thought we were, like, really high up. [00:35:20] Speaker B: I don't think that's the lake. [00:35:22] Speaker D: I think it's the storm. [00:35:27] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:35:27] Speaker D: As you say that more and more water begins to accumulate, but it stops dripping. And similar to the form of the hand that you saw extending from the Weeping Wall last time, a whole entire figure coalesces. And almost like it's kind of sinking through the rock. This figure made entirely out of dark water, sort of bouncing and reflecting Bud's light through and around this room. Her. Assuming her, she has a feminine figure, sort of long, billowing hair that looks to be, like, moving with some kind of wind that you can't feel or hear. As this figure just kind of steps down lightly. You're not able to discern any kinds of facial features. She is just presumably made entirely out of water. [00:36:34] Speaker B: Hi. [00:36:37] Speaker E: Hello. [00:36:39] Speaker B: Oh, shit. [00:36:42] Speaker E: You four have made it a lot farther than I was expecting you would. [00:36:46] Speaker C: When you say long, billowing hair, does it. Is it like the painting person? [00:36:53] Speaker D: That's a really good connection. It does kind of remind you of that figure somehow. [00:37:02] Speaker E: I take it you are the ones that the Sky Reader sent. [00:37:09] Speaker C: We are, yeah. [00:37:12] Speaker E: At least this time around. [00:37:15] Speaker B: Oh, what? What do you mean by that. [00:37:21] Speaker E: Oh, there's a prophecy, is there not? [00:37:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:37:26] Speaker E: In the lines of the prophecy, they happen to line up with you individually. [00:37:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:37:34] Speaker D: She heaves a long sigh, which you know is probably not actually happening, as she is made entirely out of water. But she sighs and she says, how did it go? [00:37:50] Speaker E: A hero born of blood. Whose blood exactly? [00:37:56] Speaker D: As she kind of turns to face toward you, Finn. [00:37:59] Speaker B: Uh, my parents, I guess they're pretty cool, you know, we're the Jasper family, I guess. [00:38:13] Speaker E: Born of blood. I suppose that could apply to the Jasper family or. Or any family. I'm sure you're all old enough to know exactly how the baby process happens. What was the next part? Accepting a change from child to grown. I don't mean to be frank, but that's something that everybody must come to. [00:38:40] Speaker D: Terms with when growing. [00:38:44] Speaker E: Armed with determination and grit. I suppose in one way or another, you might be the most determined, have the most grit. [00:38:54] Speaker A: At this point, Ant has been like sneaking around and has his Sandborn, that's he's named Grit up and is like ready to smack if water lady decides to get too crazy with her prophecy telling. He's just like standing there. [00:39:13] Speaker D: She kind of turns towards you and. [00:39:16] Speaker E: I seem to have upset you in some way. [00:39:19] Speaker A: You tried to grab me earlier. [00:39:23] Speaker E: I'm not trying to harm you. I'm trying to keep you safe. [00:39:27] Speaker A: From what? [00:39:30] Speaker D: She kind of turns her head towards the ceiling. [00:39:34] Speaker E: When this platform reaches where it's going, you will be thrust into the middle of a violent storm at the top of Mount Winet. All of ruin lies below you. And in tempestuous winds, in hard rains. I fear it's not any place for the three of you but the four of you. [00:40:01] Speaker C: Well, if if stop us from getting there, it's gonna happen to the rest of the world. And if we do get up there, sure might not be the best. Might not make it out. But at least we tried, you know. [00:40:19] Speaker E: I suppose I'm not quite sure what's driving you all. Why are you doing what it is that you are doing? [00:40:33] Speaker C: I mean, who wouldn't? Especially if you're called to. Born to do it. It's a good world we got, and we gotta protect it. [00:40:43] Speaker E: It's a beautiful world we have indeed. I don't know about it being a good one. [00:40:51] Speaker D: As she says this, each and every one of you kind of feel this way. This deep feeling of somberness as seemingly pushed to the forefront of your mind. You think about sort of when you realized that yes, Ruuna is beautiful, but. [00:41:13] Speaker E: It might not be Good, Finn. [00:41:18] Speaker D: You remember a close childhood friend that you had and the way that you grew apart from each other Once you began to focus more on your studies. That friend went off and you haven't heard from them again. Remember traveling with the caravan and your family and your friends and your loved. [00:41:41] Speaker E: Ones, giving you caution not to travel alone. [00:41:44] Speaker D: For there are people who wish to. [00:41:45] Speaker E: Do harm to others, to steal from. [00:41:48] Speaker D: Them, to set them off their path. Ant you think hard about the way that you have seen people behave in the desert, the way that they are willing to steal and to take and do what they have to to survive. Even if it means damning somebody else in the process. And as you kind of consider these things, that sort of deep sadness inside of you kind of bubbles up to the surface. And you feel hot tears prick your eyes. [00:42:27] Speaker E: Rune can be so beautiful. It has been before. And we can make it beautiful again. But we have to start over. [00:42:44] Speaker B: Why? [00:42:47] Speaker E: Why what? [00:42:49] Speaker B: Why start over? [00:42:52] Speaker E: I mean, look at what happens when people forget what happened before. [00:43:00] Speaker D: Look at what happens when the inhabitants of Rhun think that they are entitled. [00:43:08] Speaker E: To their own happiness above anyone else's. It's not something that can just be. [00:43:16] Speaker D: Fixed with a wave of a wand or whatever. [00:43:19] Speaker E: It has to start again. A clean slate. Wash away the bad so the good can thrive and return. [00:43:30] Speaker B: But you're not left with good. You're left with. With nothing. [00:43:33] Speaker E: Isn't that where we all come from? [00:43:35] Speaker B: People can't learn if there's nothing to learn from. [00:43:41] Speaker E: She kind of sits up a little straighter. [00:43:44] Speaker D: The elevator is still slowly rising. [00:43:48] Speaker B: Tesley, open your. Open your book. [00:43:50] Speaker C: Can I open my book? [00:43:53] Speaker B: The journal pages. Did you learn those because of your brain? Or did you take notes on things that have already pre. Existed? [00:44:03] Speaker C: Yeah, I took notes. Broke down what I learned in the world, as I always have. As my people always have. [00:44:11] Speaker B: So if there was nothing left of the world, would there be anything to take notes on? [00:44:15] Speaker C: No. [00:44:17] Speaker B: Oh. [00:44:17] Speaker C: Huh. [00:44:19] Speaker B: Sort of weird. [00:44:20] Speaker C: Not really. I mean, there's ruins and artifacts, but then I'll stop somewhere and. You can wash away the bad of the world by starting over, but you're also washing away the good. And the bad will always return. But the good is gonna be there, no matter what. [00:44:47] Speaker E: Pity. I thought the three of you would listen. [00:44:51] Speaker D: You see her kind of lunge forward, Tesley, as she reaches for bud in this jar, this surging wall of water streaming forth, bubbles and foam. I need you to please make me a skulker roll, Ref. [00:45:07] Speaker A: I want to roll. Initiative. [00:45:09] Speaker B: I was about to Say. I was about to say Finn looks at it and he goes, aaaaat. I have to. [00:45:15] Speaker C: Two questions. [00:45:17] Speaker D: Sure. [00:45:17] Speaker C: One of them is, do I need to that beautiful plus one that you gave me earlier? [00:45:25] Speaker D: You don't have to. [00:45:26] Speaker C: Do I have to say before or after? [00:45:28] Speaker D: I'll let you do it after for the drama, you know, and this will be. [00:45:34] Speaker C: Oh, no, no, no. [00:45:35] Speaker D: Keep going. I forgot you had a second one. [00:45:37] Speaker C: Oh, I was gonna say. Well, now I don't know why it matters. It doesn't matter mechanically because they are the same score. But so I figured that because the hook on like the ore is supposed to hold like a lantern while they're like rowing, that it's like one of those hooks that like close and like keep the lantern in place. [00:45:56] Speaker D: Like a carabiner. [00:45:58] Speaker C: Yeah, essentially so. Because that's kind of keeping Bud in place, like simultaneously bringing the. The top of the orb back to protect Bud and keep him away from her. And also like doing like an uppercut with like the paddle part of the ore too. It's like defense offense at the same time. [00:46:25] Speaker D: Okay, so you'd rather roll a brute check. Is that. [00:46:28] Speaker C: Sure I can. They're the same score. [00:46:31] Speaker D: Oh, okay, I see. [00:46:33] Speaker C: So I just flavor adding a little space. Yeah, just, just. [00:46:38] Speaker D: Yeah, go ahead and make me a difficulty score 10 evasive offensive maneuver here. [00:46:45] Speaker C: All right, let's do one at a time. [00:46:47] Speaker D: And then after this resolves, I'll let Ant and Finn, who are gearing up to it seems, go Ham, as it were. We'll. We'll get to you too. [00:46:58] Speaker C: So I got seven plus one plus. No, I'm not gonna use it, cuz it's not even a 10. [00:47:04] Speaker D: So. [00:47:05] Speaker C: An 8. [00:47:06] Speaker D: An 8. Okay. Unfortunately, as she surges forward, you get kind of like smacked in the chest a little bit with this kind of wave of water. And you feel your grip on your. On your oar loosen ever so slightly as it is wrenched from your grip in this torrent of water. It falls to the ground and there's a shattering sound as the exterior glass of the lantern sort of scatters. Bud flickers and doesn't seem to be having a good time. Ant and Finn, are you still. Is that still your goal is still to whack this watery figure in front of you? [00:47:50] Speaker A: Nope. Ant has new goal. It is Bud. [00:47:55] Speaker D: It is Bud and Daddy. [00:47:58] Speaker A: Yeah, I got it. It's my boy. [00:48:01] Speaker D: Okay, Tend to the plant. I think that will. I think you can roll like an erudite roll to try and like tend to it or I think a skulker roll to try and snatch it and get it out of harm's way. I have a guess as to which one you're gonna go for. [00:48:18] Speaker A: Yeah. I think Ant is gonna, like, whip its cloak off and try to, like, scoop the plant up and all, like, you know, the dirt and everything up into the cloak like we were saying we were going to do earlier. Like, you know, make a little thing for. [00:48:32] Speaker D: For the plant baby puppies. [00:48:34] Speaker A: Scoop that up, dropping grit in order to do so. For the drama. [00:48:43] Speaker D: For the drama. [00:48:43] Speaker A: And just as. As he dives to go do that is like, I never trusted water. It's going to go flat. [00:48:50] Speaker D: Okay. Yeah. This will be another difficulty score of 10, please. [00:48:55] Speaker A: Okay. Nine. [00:49:02] Speaker E: Nine. [00:49:02] Speaker C: Can I give him my plus one, please? [00:49:05] Speaker D: Oh, sure. Describe to me what that looks like if you need a minute to think about it. That's okay. [00:49:11] Speaker C: What did he do? [00:49:13] Speaker A: I went to scoop the plant up. I, like, pulled my cloak off and went to scoop the plant. [00:49:18] Speaker B: Okay. [00:49:18] Speaker A: Bud up into my cloak. Make a little makeshift pot. [00:49:24] Speaker C: Yeah. I don't have my ore on me, so maybe clasping my journal and chucking it at her kind of do, like, a distraction. And also it's very, like, thematic. [00:49:44] Speaker D: Get knowledged. [00:49:45] Speaker C: Get knowledged, bitch. [00:49:47] Speaker B: Get knowledged, idiot. [00:49:52] Speaker D: Awesome. Yeah. So, Ant, that is just enough of a distraction for you to swoop in and gather bud. Even the pot that it was in has seemingly shattered. There's loose bits of dirt on the ground that are mixing with the splash of water, becoming muddy. You can see roots bare and exposed. And the flower that has sort of opened up in a bell shape seems to be rapidly closing as you scoop it up and kind of cradle it. [00:50:21] Speaker A: I'm gonna scoop and scoop and be. [00:50:23] Speaker D: Like, scooping and scooping. [00:50:24] Speaker A: It's okay. It's okay. I gotcha. And, like, hold. Hold my plant baby away from the water, which I am also getting away from because we don't like that. [00:50:37] Speaker D: And Finn, not last. Well, yes, last but not. Certainly least. You're gonna thwack this thing. [00:50:46] Speaker B: Okay. I have a question for you, Meg. [00:50:50] Speaker D: Okay, I'm open. [00:50:52] Speaker B: Can I make a roll to attack this thing using an item? But will you allow me to save my flavor until after I roll? [00:51:02] Speaker D: Sure. [00:51:03] Speaker B: Okay. [00:51:05] Speaker D: It's an attack score of 10. Okay, cool. [00:51:08] Speaker B: So I get. So it's. So it's a brute plus I'm using an item plus. [00:51:12] Speaker D: Yeah. Okay, so you'll be adding three plus one. [00:51:17] Speaker B: Okay. Four plus six plus three is nine. Plus one for my item is ten. [00:51:28] Speaker D: Oh, My gosh. Okay, what happens? [00:51:30] Speaker B: Finn runs into his Runesport from behind, and he grabs onto his cloak and he goes and he tries to absorb some of her water into his cloak as he sort of, like, swipes down with it, basically. [00:51:45] Speaker D: Awesome. What color is your cloak again? [00:51:50] Speaker B: It is a simple gray. Something to, like. [00:51:54] Speaker D: Simple gray cloak, conceal. [00:51:56] Speaker B: Be understated, you know. He's a very, like, loud red hair, icy blue eyes, individual. So a nice gray cloak is, like, just what he needs. Demure, mindful. [00:52:07] Speaker D: Amazing. [00:52:07] Speaker A: Demure. [00:52:08] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah. This flash of gray as it streaks through everyone's kind of peripheral vision, cutting through this watery figure. As this gray becomes even darker and kind of the flickering light of Bud starting to close up, it looks horrifying. And this swoosh of gray and the spray of water makes it feel as if in this room, you are in the middle of this torrential downpour and you hear this kind of wailing sound. A mix of despair and anguish and fury as this figure screams at you. I tried to warn you. I tried to warn you and keep you safe before the water just kind of sloughs to the ground, spreading across the floor. And it is just the three of you and Bud in the elevator. Right at that moment, the floor stops moving and there's this different kind of movement, rotating around, and this gap in the wall begins to appear as you kind of shift and turn until there's another doorway. And on the other side is nothing but a stormy black cloud. Flickers of lightning flash inside of this room, illuminating three faces and the bloom of a dying plant. I think that is where we will end this session. [00:53:52] Speaker A: I should have smacked her. I should have smacked her when she opened her mouth. Nothing good comes from water. [00:54:01] Speaker D: Thinks about every civilization ever and every plant ever that needs. [00:54:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:54:05] Speaker A: Ant's like, no, they don't. I've seen it in the desert. Even though he's completely ignoring the fact that, like, they do need water. [00:54:13] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:54:14] Speaker B: Who needs it? [00:54:15] Speaker D: No. Thank you guys for playing. Thank you at home for listening. We'll be back next week with the sixth and final installment of Chosen's Adventure. I know I got, like, kind of emotional saying that just now. I love these little dudes and your weird plant. [00:54:37] Speaker A: It's my plant. It's bud. [00:54:41] Speaker D: Bud. Three buds in their bud. [00:54:43] Speaker B: Aw. [00:54:46] Speaker D: Yeah. Thank you for listening, Lucas and Morgan, as our guests. Do you want to plug anything for us today? Where can our. Where can our listeners continue to engage with you on the Internet if they so choose? [00:54:59] Speaker A: I will. But also, real quick, it's that meme that's like, father, help my boy. [00:55:06] Speaker D: Father, help my boy. [00:55:09] Speaker A: That's Ant. [00:55:10] Speaker D: I love plant, dad. Ant. It just tickles me. [00:55:14] Speaker A: But yeah, you can find Borgonoi on. On Party of Gremlins on YouTube. And yeah, come. Come listen to our DND game where Meg is also there. Yeah, I'm there sometimes by sometimes. Hopefully every game in one of them. [00:55:37] Speaker D: The other game, not in the other one. Yeah, sent into Avernus. If you run something like. [00:55:41] Speaker A: There we go. [00:55:42] Speaker C: Lucas, let's bring Meg to help, please. [00:55:44] Speaker A: Let's bring Magdalene. Perfect. [00:55:47] Speaker D: Depending on how this next session goes, that might be deserved. [00:55:51] Speaker A: Okay, noted. [00:55:52] Speaker D: So if you want context for that, go to YouTube. Any. Anything else from you, Morgan, that you'd. [00:56:01] Speaker C: Like to find that is also where you could find me. Or if you're on Instagram, I'm more ghosty. M O R G H O S T Y that's my name and the word ghosty. [00:56:13] Speaker D: I like the little jingle. [00:56:15] Speaker C: Thanks. [00:56:18] Speaker D: And as always, you can find Jay and me here hanging out on the spells and whistles social media join our discord also, which is linked below.
